DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nIn this combined class\, students will have the opportunity to learn and become certified on two cutting-edge machines: the CNC Waterjet Cutter and the STV CNC Plasma Cutter. This class is designed for both beginners and advanced users\, providing a comprehensive learning experience for all skill levels.  \nWith the CNC Waterjet Cutter\, students will learn how to design for the machine\, understand its specifications\, fixture materials such as ceramic and metal to the bed\, and cut their designs. The waterjet cutter offers precise cutting capabilities and can work with a range of materials.  \nIn addition\, students will become certified in the use of the STV CNC Plasma Cutter at Machyne Makerspace. This machine features a 48″ x 96″ table and utilizes a Hypertherm65 torch\, allowing for cutting up to ½” thick steel. Students will learn how to convert 2D vector designs into CAM files suitable for plasma cutting. They will also explore different cut paths\, consider kerf thickness based on material thickness and plasma cutter tips\, and delve into design techniques specific to CNC plasma cutting. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \n  \nIn this class\, students will learn how to make simple components using basic metal fabrication techniques and MIG welding. This includes simple cutting of square tube stock with a cold saw / chop saw / angle grinder\, how to cut sheet steel with a jump shear\, and how to make simple tack welds and beads with a Lincoln Electric Easy MIG 180 welder. Tips for fixture materials\, clean-up welds\, and painting/finishing will be discussed. Members will practice welding by creating a 4″ x 4″ x 8″ lantern. \nIf this is your first time attending one of our classes\, please make sure to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for filling out a liability waiver.
