This will instruct attendees on how to operate the ShopBot PRS Alpha CNC router table at Machyne. Students will learn the capabilities\, operation\, and safety protocols for the ShopBot. After attending the class users will know how to power the machine; move the tooling in X\, Y\, and Z; fasten materials to the bed; insert bits; set the origin & Z-Height; and how to safely run jobs on the machine. \nNote: Machyne’s ShopBot PRS Alpha cut-size is 5’x10′ with 13″ Z-height from the bed to the collet\, and is outfitted with a variable speed spindle.

SUMMARY:CNC Plasma Cutting Training
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \nIn this class\, you will have the opportunity to create your own custom sign-up to 12″ x 24″ out of 16-Gauge mild steel. Additionally\, you’ll become certified in the use of the STV CNC Plasma cutter at Machyne Makerspacee. \nThe table is 48”x96”\, and the torch is a Hypertherm65\, which allows the cutting of up to ½” thick steel. You will learn how to take a 2D vector design and convert it to the CAM file necessary for the plasma table. The different types of lead-in/lead-out cut paths will be discussed\, as well as the difference in kerf (thickness of your cutting lines) based on material thickness\, amperage\, and plasma cutter tips. Different design techniques specific to CNC plasma cutting will be discussed\, such as stenciling 2D designs\, or taking 3D designs and converting them into 2D patterns which can then be plasma cut in 2D and then folded on a brake or with hand tools into a 3D shape. The Hypertherm65 can cut mild steel\, stainless steel\, and aluminum.

SUMMARY:MIG Welding Training Session
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \n  \nIn this class\, students will learn how to make simple components using basic metal fabrication techniques and MIG welding. This includes simple cutting of square tube stock with a cold saw / chop saw / angle grinder\, how to cut sheet steel with a jump shear\, and how to make simple tack welds and beads with a Lincoln Electric Easy MIG 180 welder. Tips for fixture materials\, clean-up welds\, and painting/finishing will be discussed. Members will practice welding by creating a 4″ x 4″ x 8″ lantern.

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \n  \nYouth can use this time to plan a project\, start on a new project\, continue working on a project\, as well as using this time to learn new skills or further refine skills. \nWe have access to: 3-D printers\, a laser cutter\, drill press\, bandsaw\, miter saw\, various handtools\, and chromebooks. \n*Because the physical space is limited to 10 spots for youth\, preference is given to currently enrolled 4-H students and those who live within the immediate service area of 16 Tech.

This will be learned through a Woodshop Overview PowerPoint\, a Safety Walkthrough\, and a hands-on experience utilizing the woodshop tools to process rough-sawn lumber into milled lumber using basic woodworking techniques to create a custom charcuterie board!
